Teeth can become broken down and need filling for a variety of reasons including tooth decay, loss or leakage around an existing filling, loss of a portion of natural tooth or due to tooth trauma.Fillings come in a whole variety of materials and your dentist will discuss and recommend the best option with you for each clinical situation.
Tooth coloured fillings are used for the front of the mouth, whilst at the back there are several options. Traditionally the standard material available to fill back teeth was Dental Amalgam (silver fillings). With advancements in dental materials technology patients are no longer limited to unsightly silver fillings at the back of their mouths and now have the option of having aesthetic tooth coloured restorations placed in these areas when clinically appropriate.
